Three Rivers Festival • Music in the Heart of Scotland


Yelyzaveta Bahlai is a Ukrainian double bassist based in London. She graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine in Kyiv in 2023, where she studied with Professor Mikhailo Chaikin, and completed her Master of Music degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London in 2025 under the guidance of Professor Valentina Ciardelli. Her studies were supported by scholarships from Trinity College London, the Barbara & David Allen Charitable Trust, and the Ofenheim Charitable Trust.
Yelyzaveta performed with the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine and the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra, and appeared as a guest musician with leading Ukrainian orchestras and national chamber collectives.
Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, she relocated to the United Kingdom, where she continued her studies and developed her professional career in London.
She has appeared at leading venues in Ukraine, across Europe, and in the United Kingdom, including the Barbican Hall, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, Queen's House, the Royal Albert Hall, and St Pancras Clock Tower.
Yelyzaveta has performed at numerous international festivals across Europe, including the Tsinandali Festival as a member of the Pan-Caucasian Youth Orchestra, Musikfestspiele Königswinkel, and the Trentino Music Festival. She has worked under the baton of distinguished conductors including Manfred Honeck, Gianandrea Noseda, Oksana Lyniv, Adrian Brown and Christopher Warren-Green.
She has participated in masterclasses with internationally renowned double bassists Brendan Kane, Enno Senft, Jens Bomhardt, Christian Ciaccio, Antonio Mercurio, and Thierry Barbé.
Alongside her orchestral and chamber work, Yelyzaveta is developing an active solo practice, with recent solo appearances at the International Festival Luci della Ribalta in Italy. She has also collaborated in contemporary interdisciplinary projects, including Exter.Live in Kyiv, exploring improvisation and experimental performance.
