NaliniPaul Profile photo.jpg

Nalini Paul’s poetry is inspired by walks in ‘wild’ landscapes, memory and belonging. Her first

collection, Skirlags, was shortlisted for the Callum Macdonald Award in 2010 and her collection,

The Raven’s Song (2015) is inspired by raven and crow myths from Orkney, Shetland and

Canada. Nalini was George Mackay George Mackay Brown Writing Fellow in Orkney (2009-10),

and has collaborated with visual and sound artists, musicians, dancers, archaeologists and the

RSPB.

She has taken part in international residencies and literature festivals in Finland, Kolkata

and France (including the Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship in Grez-sur-Loing); and her work

has been translated into Finnish. In 2022 Nalini’s poem, ‘Niseaboist, Isle of Harris’, served as

inspiration for new music composed by Georgina MacDonell Finlayson, which was performed by

the Scottish Chamber Orchestra at various coastal communities in Scotland.

Nalini has a PhD in

Postcolonial Studies and works as a lecturer for The Glasgow School of Art.
