Claire Haslin is a Weegie through and through. This doesn’t mean she deep fries everything she eats, but does mean she can’t understand folk who don’t put crisps in their sandwiches.
She ventured briefly away from the RCS to brave the wilds of the Guildhall School in London, primarily because her teacher there used to run lovely courses in France, which encouraged a love of Debussy and fine red wine.
After tiring of telling people that ‘no, she wasn’t Irish’ she came home, and now wears many hats at RCS as a member of staff - if she’s not coaching singers or teaching pianists how to play nice(ly) with others, she is trying to avoid playing too many crazy saxophone accompaniments by hanging out with the cool flautists.
Periodically her chamber groups drag her away from her comfort zone of the West coast to tour around Scotland and the UK. She has been variously, stranded in the Highland snow with her Trio, dressed as a Ringmaster whilst MD’ing Scottish Opera’s Highlights tour, and sampling 5 Star luxury in Switzerland with the Singing Waiters. Occasionally her husband, baritone Phil Gault, bribes her with promises of DIY and baked goods to accompany him in his quest to remember the words to a variety of song cycles. So far he’s remembered more than she has…
When not surgically attached to the piano, Claire can be found curled up on the sofa with a mug of tea, a good movie, and her Kermode & Mayo film podcast.
